Look deeply into your own nature
And establish an inner connection
How do you prepare the soil
in which you will sow your intentions?
Which seeds do you choose to water?
In embracing a holistic and inclusive view
We integrate spiritual values into our
Thoughts, speech and actions
Generating harmony, compassion and awareness
Let’s expand our consciousness
Acknowledging our inter-being nature
Our modern society has conquered the knowledge to transform
raw natural resources into products to be consumed, through refining and
processing those resources. But still, we haven't learned how to refine our
sensibility to perceive the world and other beings with compassionate eyes. To refine and process the goods
we buy and consume, the environment is explored, energy is used, pollution is
produced and waste is generated. To refine our sensibility we must look within
to embrace a wider dimension of life. In
order to feed the consumerism hunger, so encouraged by the economic force, limited
natural elements are being exploited more than ever, resulting in shortage of
resources, habitat destruction, climate change and mass extinction. When the
sensibility is refined and the heart is filled with compassion, there’s no room
for exploitation and destruction, as understanding comes into being.
Everything we consume comes from the nature and must
return to it as waste, including our thoughts and emotions. The Earth, as a self-regulated living being,
has developed means, through its sacred wisdom, to transform and reuse all the
organic waste produced by it and other living beings. This organic recycle
chain has made sustainability and harmony possible over the planet’s existence.
Unfortunately, we’re interfering in this balanced
system, due to the industrial mass production and its consequences. The Earth
is overloaded with the results of our consumerism, not being able to adapt the
harmonic organic recycle chain to our waste production speed. We must cultivate
the wisdom to transform our waste into compost, both material and
mental/emotional.
Extractive mining industries break mountains apart to
dig up for metals and minerals, affecting the ecosystem and destroying the
habitat of humans, animals and plants. Forests’ biodiversity is being cut down
and reduced into industrial agricultural land and unsustainable monocropping. We’re
losing our biocultural diversity and risking our own survival just to accumulate
stuff we end up not using. It is time to question “how do we orient our values
in life? Are we willing to commit ourselves to the necessary transformation, so
healing can take place?”
In perceiving the Earth as a complex living being, we
recognize its right to live and be preserved, not only for future human
generations to continue the devastation, but as reverence to the being who
offers us life. As long as we continue to see the Earth as an inanimate rock,
we will keep up with the exploitation and destruction. We’re so caught up in
our narrow world view, focusing only on self-benefits and desires that we deny
the major ecological crisis we’re facing, more than that, we deny our direct
and indirect participation on this crisis. Humankind has created an unbalanced
reality, as a result of our ignorance and fear. We must be aware of this
reality in order to heal and transform it, but first we must heal and transform
ourselves. There’s a vital need to touch our inner nature and integrate
ecological awareness into our daily life choices. Also, we must incorporate
spiritual values, such as compassion, respect, mutual collaboration and
inclusiveness into our thoughts, speech and actions.
